Emporia High track and field turned in strong performances Friday at the Regional Meet at Hummer Sports Park in Topeka, with the Lady Spartans finishing fourth in the team standings and the boys placing fifth.
The Spartans were led by several top-three finishes on both the boys’ and girls’ sides, with athletes securing spots in next week’s State Meet in Wichita.
For the boys, Garrett LeBlanc captured a regional title in the triple jump, while River Doemland won the pole vault. Chance Duncan had a big day in the throwing events, earning runner-up finishes in the shot put, discus and javelin. Ben Collins added a second-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles.
On the girls’ side, Paige Newland claimed regional championships in both the long jump and triple jump. Kaylee DeWitt added gold in the 300-meter hurdles, while Allison Aeschliman placed third in the 100-meter hurdles. The Lady Spartans also won the 4×100-meter relay.
Regional qualifiers will advance to the State Meet in Wichita next Friday. KVOE and KVOE.com will provide hourly reports on all area athletes throughout the state meet.
