Fresh off its performance at Emporia’s Memorial Day service Monday, the Municipal Band rolls into its regular concert schedule this week.
Conductor Nancy Riecker is expecting a big season with a big sound.
The season starts at Fremont Park at 8 pm Thursday.
Dee Schwinn of the Friends of City Band is asking for some additional support in a couple different ways.
Band concerts are Thursday nights through July 9. The dedication of and ribbon-cutting for the redesigned bandstand will be at 7:30 pm June 4, with prior directors James Davis and Gary McCarty both on hand for the festivities. After two years performing at Emporia State’s Welch Stadium for the city’s July 4 activities, the bank will be back at Fremont Park to perform July 2. After the normal concert season ends, there have been some conversations about a fall or spring concert series. Confirmed later this year are a Veterans Day show and the now-traditional Christmas concert.
