The 20th anniversary of Unbound Gravel is officially here.
Thousands of riders and gravel cycling enthusiasts have begun arriving in Emporia and received a warm welcome courtesy of Merchant Street Cycles and their Memorial Day barbecue held at Mulready’s Pub. Unbound Race Director Sean Thurman says the barbecue was a welcome addition to the traditional list of activities. Thurman says it also fits well with the Memorial Day Holiday, which is often spent with family, and Unbound is itself an extended family.
Thurman also says the welcoming atmosphere of the barbecue was an extension of the atmosphere that is synonymous with Unbound and Emporia.
In addition to the barbecue, Monday’s activities also include an 11-mile family fun ride, which will be just one of many rides happening over the next several days ahead of the official series of Unbound races Friday and Saturday. We have the full schedule available here.
