The Neosho River’s Regional Advisory Committee has its regular meeting in Emporia this week.
Board members will meet at Emporia State University’s Prophet Aquatic Research and Outreach Center on Thursday. General topics include developing topics in the watershed, as well as an information presentation and varying updates, both from RAC members and the Kansas Water Office.
The RAC will also discuss the Kansas Water Authority’s willingness to keep RAC members updated on a potential hydrosuction project, including participation in site tours and other related activities. The Water Office has been researching the feasibility of hydrosuction as an alternative to traditional dredging, and a whitepaper report announced in February and involving research from the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, University of Kansas and Bowersock Mills and Power indicates John Redmond Reservoir could be a good site for such a project due to the amount of sediment and the existing infrastructure at the lake.
Thursday’s meeting begins at 1 pm.
