Emporia’s Chesney Erkel shot +2 to claim sixth Wednesday in the 5A State Golf Tournament at Tallgrass Golf Club in Wichita.
Erkel followed up a strong day one with an even better day two. The lone EHS golfer on the course moved up from eighth after shooting one of the best scores of the day, 73. He was happy with his round one score.
The Spartan finished the two-day event at +6, which was five strokes back of state champ Cohen Museousky of Goddard. Erkel said being more comfortable with the course helped on day two.
The team title went to St James. The Thunder edged out Kapaun Mt Carmel by four shots.
The conclusion of the state tournament completes the 2026 Emporia golf season.
