The Council Grove baseball team put a massive stamp on the 2026 KABC 3A All-State selections, leading the area with an impressive five players earning postseason recognition, alongside a major coaching honor.
Headlining the first-team honors for the Braves were senior third baseman Maxton Villobos, junior outfielder Bradley Doornbos, and junior utility player Reid Buttrey. All three played crucial roles in the team’s success this spring, proving to be among the elite players in Class 3A.
The honors did not stop there, as Council Grove also placed two standouts on the second team. Sophomore catcher Joshua Senne was recognized for his stellar work behind the plate, while junior middle infielder Luke Stewart secured a spot after a standout campaign in the infield.
Capping off the incredible season for the program, Council Grove manager Matt Wilkens was officially named the 3A Coach of the Year, cementing the Braves’ status as one of the premier baseball programs in the state this season. They went 26-2 and fell in the 3A state quarterfinals to Silver Lake 1-0.
