A second half penalty shot was the difference maker as Emporia FC toppled the top team in the League for Clubs Mid-American Conference Thursday night.
Emporia FC defeated the previously unbeaten Omaha Evolution 1-0 in what was a back-and-forth match for the Black Lions, who were looking to bounce back after a loss in their previous outing against Union KC. A foul in the Omaha box by goalkeeper Matthew Hudson would lead to a yellow card and penalty shot by Fabian Arroyo that broke a scoreless tie in the 73rd minute of play.
This was the first loss and first game without a goal for Omaha, which came into the match with 13 goals for and just three goals allowed in three contests. With the win, Emporia now improves to 2-1-2 in the League and is currently in second place in the Mid-American Conference standings.
Emporia’s next matchup will be Monday, June 15th, at home in a rematch against KC Union.
