The Emporia Fire Department has deemed the rupture of a fuel saddle tank that led to one person being hospitalized Tuesday morning as an accident.
That was according to Emporia Fire Marshall Steven Beemer, who spoke with KVOE News Tuesday afternoon, roughly six hours after the incident at 2805 Bellaire Drive, Red Line Trucking, . Emporia Fire was initially toned out for an explosion at the property, owned by Red Line Trucking, and advised to go to the shop at 2925 Sutton Place, where they found that a fuel saddle tank had “ruptured.”
There was no smoke or fire present and less than 5 gallons of diesel were found on the shop ground. One person was injured as a result of the incident and taken to Newman Regional Health for potential treatment and observation.
The name of the individual injured, the severity of their injuries and their current condition have not been announced.
11 am Tuesday: Small-scale explosion at Redline Trucking sends one person to Newman Regional Health
An investigation is underway after one person was hurt in a small-scale explosion at an Emporia business Tuesday.
Emporia Fire and Emporia Police responded to Redline Trucking, 2805 Bel-Aire, shortly after 9:15 am. Emporia Fire Capt. Willie Ward tells KVOE News the initial indications are there was work underway on a semi diesel fuel tank in a garage. For currently unknown reasons, the tank overpressurized and exploded.
One person nearby was taken to Newman Regional Health with significant trauma. The severity and extent of injuries have not been announced.
Initial plans to possibly airlift the patient to another hospital were halted due to storms near Emporia.
There is no word of any structural damage to the garage or to a refrigerated trailer nearby.
