An investigation is underway after one person was hurt in a small-scale explosion at an Emporia business Tuesday.
Emporia Fire and Emporia Police responded to Redline Trucking, 2913 Bel-Aire, shortly after 9:15 am. Emporia Fire Capt. Willie Ward tells KVOE News the initial indications are there was work underway on a semi diesel fuel tank in a garage. For currently unknown reasons, the tank overpressurized and exploded.
One person nearby was taken to Newman Regional Health with significant trauma. The severity and extent of injuries have not been announced.
Initial plans to possibly airlift the patient to another hospital were halted due to storms near Emporia.
There is no word of any structural damage to the garage or to a refrigerated trailer nearby.
