Lyon County Commissioners will be revisiting a potential road upgrade once additional discussions between county personnel and the landowner are held in the coming weeks.
During their regular action meeting Thursday morning, commissioners directed Lyon County Engineer Wayne Scritchfield to begin exploring options for updates on a section of Road W between Roads 40 and 50. The reason for the direction came at the request of landowner Stef Raber, who owns the property where the section of road is located.
Raber is seeking to have the “minimum maintenance road” updated to a gravel road due to its current condition. According to Assistant Lyon County Engineer Jim Brull, who spoke with KVOE News Thursday afternoon, several options could be utilized, however, the county wants to make sure they can receive the best “bang for their buck” noting they want to not only accommodate residential traffic but also have the roads in the proper condition to accommodate emergency vehicles and other necessary traffic in the area should such services be required.
Commissioners gave direction for Scritchfield to begin exploring the options available, discuss those with Raber and return to the commission with a set of recommendations once those conversations have been had. A date for future consideration has not been given.
In other business Thursday, commissioners received their latest set of appropriation requests from the North Central Flint Hills Agency on Aging and the Neosho Rapids Senior Center. The NCFHA request was up considerably from last year’s ask of $140,000 to $268,278 this year, while the Senior Center request decreased slightly with an ask of $7,642, nearly $3,000 less than the $10,000 sought last year.
Commissioners have taken the requests under consideration.
Separately, commissioners approved a quote not to exceed $120,000 from Security Oil Company LLC for fuel tank replacements and associated equipment. Travel requests from Lyon County Appraiser Ryan Janzen, the first for himself and Zach Carr to attend the IAAO conference in Calgary, Canada, October 13-16 and the second for Janzen to attend the NCRAAAO Conference, were both approved unanimously.
Commissioners would then approve the purchase of a refurbished server from I.T. Creations for just over $11,900 at the request of IT Director Jean Barnett before adjourning the meeting. Commissioners are next scheduled to convene Thursday at 9 am inside the Lyon County Courthouse Commission Chambers for their regular meeting.
