Saturday was a big day for the newest business in Emporia.
Big O Tires held its grand opening activities at 2026 West Sixth Avenue, featuring a range of deals, free food and inflatables to welcome the community through their doors. While Big O may be new to Emporia, owner Cory Mitchell is no stranger to the community, having deep familial ties to the local area, which played a large role in he and his wife choosing to locate their store here.
Co-owner Grace Mitchell says at Big O, it is all about family.
In addition to the Mitchells, the store features a large staff of familiar faces within the local automotive field, including store manager Dave Hudson and General Manager Justin Hensley. Hensley, who long owned Quick Lube in Emporia, says he has enjoyed the atmosphere and camaraderie within the Big O family.
Saturday’s event was busy from start to finish with customers filling the parking lot and storefront for several hours. Hudson says the turnout kept them busy, but that is exactly what they were hoping for.
Big O Tires began in 1962 as part of an independent cooperative. The brand name now has over 450 independently-owned and operated stores in 25 states.
