Firefighters in Lyon and surrounding counties are benefiting from the Kansas Department of Insurance’s annual distribution to local Firefighter Relief Associations.
The Insurance Department is distributing almost $220,000 between all Lyon County firefighting departments:

In all, nearly $21 million is getting distributed across Kansas as part of this announcement.
Funds come from a 2-percent tax as paid by insurance companies on fire and lighting insurance premiums in Kansas. Money from this program can be used to pay for health, accident, disability and life insurance premiums. It can also be used for safety enhancements like building improvements, firefighting equipment and new trucks.
