A California man was injured in a two-vehicle crash in Chase County Thursday afternoon.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the accident occurred just after 3:30 pm at Kansas Turnpike mile marker 103.3 southbound. The KHP crash log says a 2025 semi freightliner was traveling in the area and left the roadway for unlisted reasons, causing it to tip onto its side.
The semi would come to a rest on the roadway, blocking all southbound traffic and one lane of northbound traffic. At the same time, a 2019 Mercedes GLA-Class was traveling northbound and was struck by a piece of concrete wall debris.
The driver of the semi, 27-year-old Ekamjot Singh Aulakh of Fresno, California, suffered suspected serious injuries in the accident and was taken to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. The driver of the Mercedes, 42-year-old Scott Randall Newby of Edmond, Oklahoma, suffered no apparent injury.
Both individuals were wearing safety restraints at the time of the accident.
