Federal disaster aid is coming to 3 area counties after severe weather this past spring.
Kansas Governor Laura Kelly has confirmed President Donald Trump has approved the state’s request for a federal disaster declaration after severe weather affecting Morris, Osage and Wabaunsee counties, along with Cherokee and Saline counties, between April 26-27. Governor Kelly says there was damage to bridges, roads and utilities after all forms of severe weather during those 2 days.
The declaration does not cover the Lake Kahola tornado damage from earlier in April.
With the disaster declaration approved, local and state levels of government, as well as private nonprofit entities offering essential services, can apply for Public Assistance funds to repair or replace damaged infrastructure.
