The Street Cats Club of Emporia’s largest annual fundraiser is coming up soon.
The fourth annual Lolapalooza will be taking place at Emporia State University’s Kellogg Circle Saturday, July 18, from 11 am to 3 pm. The event will include vendors, a foam party, food trucks and more as the organization looks to raise funds to support the organization’s Lola Love Fund, which provides support to residents who cannot afford spay and neuter services.
This year’s fundraiser comes at a time when the organization has been busier than ever before, according to Executive Director Victoria Partridge, a recent guest of KVOE’s Talk of Emporia. She says that uptick in work stems partially from a “lofty goal” she set for the organization at the start of the year.
On top of this, Partridge says the organization’s schedule has also become far more active after it reopened its foster program, which temporarily paused operations last year.
As of Tuesday, Partridge says the dedicated volunteers have managed to TNR over 700 stray cats in the community with the year just now halfway over, making her extremely confident they will more than reach their goal. That said, while the organization has managed ot deliver a significant amount of service over the last seven months, the work never truly ends as the local feral cat population continues to grow.
With this in mind, Partridge noted this year’s event will not only support the Lola Love Fund, but also the club’s efforts to acquire a new resource in its mission.
Partridge says the goal to purchase a new van to assist with the pickup and transport of local stray cats is just over $16,000; however, factoring in taxes and other maintenance and upgrades to the vehicle, she says they are aiming for $20,000.
