Fatal crashes, DUI arrests and speed citations were all up year-to-year in the Kansas Highway Patrol’s report on July 4 holiday enforcement.
Fatality wrecks went from 2 last year to 5. None of the wrecks were DUI-related. Five people died as a result.
DUI arrests, meanwhile, were up slightly from last year, going from 25 to 26. Speed citations were up from 662 to 752, while speed warnings went from 503 to 596.
Safety belt citations for adults nearly doubled whild dropping slightly for teenage drivers. Child restraint citations also increased.
The enforcement period went from Thursday through Sunday.
