Two local housing developments are seeing positive physical progression, with a third hopefully getting to the point of vertical construction soon.
During an interview with KVOE News Wednesday afternoon, Emporia Director of Building and Neighborhood Development Justin Givens updated the status of the Lockwood, Mahtropolis, and Cedarbrook Meadows subdivision projects, which have been in development over the last several years. In terms of Lockwood and Mahtropolis, Givens says both have seen multiple homes completed, five to be exact, with Givens saying both developers are planning to continue moving forward once each of those homes is either rented or sold.
Lockwood, located just west of Sixth and Stratford, is planning to build 24 homes in the area, while Mahtropolis is planning to bring 30 single-family homes near the Trusler Sports Complex. When asked when the developers plan to have their work completed, Givens says it is hard to pinpoint, as there are always external factors that can affect the pace and scope of completion, including the state of the local economy.
As for Cedarbrook Meadows, the newest project in the community, Givens says that the project is in the final stages of development.
Thirty acres are dedicated to new homes, with over 120 houses expected. Eight acres along the east side of Americus Road and north of Frontier Farm Credit are reserved for commercial development.
This is notable because this is also the same area that has been identified for a portion of the proposed Flint Hills Digital Campus and a new Emporia Recreation Center, should those proposed projects move forward. With that in mind, KVOE News asked if Givens had had any conversations with the developer of the project as to whether or not those prospects had in any way altered or affected their desire to build in the area.
According to Givens, the developer remains firmly fixed to the location.
A timeline for the project’s completion is currently pending, but should become clearer once the final documents are in hand, according to Givens.
