There will not be a girls basketball season at Hartford High this fall and winter.
USD 252 board members reluctantly approved a 1-year pause in scheduling and operations as part of their meeting Wednesday night, according to Superintendent Ryan Muhlig.
Muhlig says the plan is to resume for the 2027-28 academic season without joining forces with another nearby school.
Muhlig says it’s important to keep the program going even with the year-long pause. How important?
Hartford girls had a small roster for the 2025-26 campaign that was decimated by illness and injury after the Lyon County League Tournament, forfeiting several games before canceling the final few games of the season.
In other business from Wednesday, board members decided to continue with Greenbush’s Health Captive program for health insurance despite an increase in premiums and a change in provider from Blue Cross Blue Shield to UnitedHealthcare. Board members also got updates on summer construction and maintenance projects, including a chimney replacement in Olpe after a lightning strike last fall and a fence replacement for the Hartford football field.
Separately, Muhlig says there was no storm-related damage at Hartford school facilities after storm-driven winds of up to 70 mph peeled the roof off City Hall across the street Saturday morning. Olpe school facilities also escaped damage.
