A Greenwood County man was hurt and an Emporia woman was arrested after a crash Sunday south of Olpe.
Lyon County Corporal Collin Brozek says deputies, Emporia Fire/EMS and Olpe Fire first responders were all dispatched to the intersection of Kansas Highway 99 and Road 40 for a reported rollover injury crash. The resulting investigation determined that a UTV driven by 74-year-old Danny Eugene Broyles of Madison and an SUV driven by 44-year-old Lisa Jo Rickabaugh of Emporia were both southbound. As Broyles slowed to make a turn, Rickabaugh allegedly failed to yield, hitting the rear of the UTV and causing it to overturn in a ditch near the intersection.
Broyles was ejected, suffered serious injuries and was airlifted by LifeSave to Stormont Vail Health in Topek. Rickabaugh, meanwhile, was evaluated at the scene for non-life-threatening injuries before getting arrested on suspicion of DUI and aggravated battery with a vehicle. Formal charges are pending through the Lyon County Attorney’s Office.
Deputies continue their investigation.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office says one person was hurt and another person was arrested after a crash south of Olpe on Sunday.
The wreck developed in the 400 block of Kansas Highway 99, 3 miles south of Olpe, around 10 am. Lyon County Corporal Collin Brozek says a UTV and an SUV were both southbound on K-99 shortly before the wreck. The SUV was following too closely and rear-ended the UTV, rolling the UTV.
The UTV driver was airlifted to an unlisted hospital afterward. The SUV driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI. Names have not been released.
11:45 am Sunday: Two-vehicle collision near Olpe results in airlift for one patient
One person was airlifted from the scene of a crash in south Lyon County on Sunday.
The wreck involved an ATV and an SUV and was reported around 10 am. Early indications have the SUV hitting the ATV near the intersection of Kansas Highway 99 and Road 40, about 3 miles south of Olpe and nearly 15 miles south of Emporia, with the ATV rider being injured as a result and subsequently airlifted to a currently unspecified hospital.
