The Battle of the Badges traveling trophy stays with Emporia Fire.
The popular vote had 55 votes for Fire/EMS, with 45 votes for Lyon County Emergency Communications and 30 for Emporia Police. Fire Marshal Stephen Beemer says it was good to take home the trophy for the second straight year, but the bigger win was for the community. He says
Beemer says this is also a win for the Red Cross, both from the blood and from the local exposure.
As far as blood units collected, the total number is to be announced. Nearly 100 units were collected on the first day of the 2-day drive Thursday.
The Red Cross listed a critical need for blood Monday.
