Extreme heat is returning to the KVOE listening area this week, starting Monday.
Temperatures are forecasted to be right near 100 degrees with heat index values up to 105 through the day. With that in mind, the National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for the entire KVOE listening area affecting Lyon, Coffey, Morris, Osage and Wabaunsee counties from 11 am to 9 pm and Chase and Greenwood counties from 1 pm to 9 pm.
With the oppressive heat, residents are reminded to take several precautions, including wearing light, loose-fitting clothing, drinking plenty of water and trying to move strenuous activities to the early morning or evening hours. If you cannot move activities, you should take frequent breaks in shade or air-conditioned areas to reduce the potential for heat-related illness, including heat stroke.
