If you’re enrolling your USD 253 student in person this week or next, district staffers are ready for you.
Student and Family Support Liaison Patricia Saenz-Reyes says parents enrolling students at the Jones Early Childhood Development Center, 327 South Walnut or just west of Riverside Elementary, will have help from start to finish.
Saenz-Reyes says parents of returning students don’t need to bring anything extra to enrollment, unless it’s out of date.
Families new to the district will go through a pre-enrollment process before officially enrolling. They will need to bring birth certificates, vaccination records and physicals.
Along with enrollment, McGehee encourages parents to figure out whether their students qualify for free or reduced meals.
Jump Start for all new students, either to the district as a whole or to their respective school, is Aug 18. The first official day of school districtwide is Aug 19. With school less than a month away, McGehee encourages parents to get open houses on their schedules.

Enrollment for the 2026-27 school year is underway for USD 253 Emporia Public Schools and parents have more ways to complete their student’s enrollment.
For those wanting to handle enrollment in person, the Jones Early Education Center will be open to that end from 8 am to 4 pm through Thursday of this week and Monday through Thursday of next week. For those who are unable to make those hours, the district has an online option that is even more user-friendly than before.
According to USD 253 Emporia Assistant IT Director Stephanie Murray, parents will access the online enrollment form through the district’s PowerSchool Parent Portal at USD253.org. Murray says this year, the district has made some improvements and updates to the PowerSchool page in an effort to make it easier to navigate both during the enrollment process and over the course of the school year.
Director of Community Relations Lyndel Landgren says for those with questions on the enrollment process, they should utilize their ParentSquare account, which is where the district will be sharing pertinent updates and communications as the enrollment process continues.
The online enrollment form opened last week and according to Landgren, more than 1,000 students have completed all enrollment forms for the coming school year.
