The number of participants for the annual Swing Away Stigma golf tournament fundraiser Saturday nearly matched the heat index for the day.
More than 100 residents took part in the fundraiser supporting Crosswinds Counseling and Wellness held at the Emporia Municipal Golf Course. Crosswinds Development Director Jacque Wellnitz says it was a scorcher of a day, with heat indexes in excess of 110, but it did not hamper the spirit of support the community has constantly shown for the mental health agency.
Fundraising totals for the event are currently pending, but Wellnitz tells KVOE News those dollars will be essential to the agency in “filling in” many of the gaps that other funding sources do not cover.
With Saturday’s event now wrapped up, Crosswinds will still be plenty busy in the coming months with several activities on their calendar.
