A man arrested in Lyon County last week and wanted in Ohio has started the court process in Emporia.
Siarhei Rudz was set for an extradition hearing Aug 26 after his first official court appearance last week. Kansas Legal Services was appointed as defense counsel.
Rudz was arrested July 20 after an alert from the Kansas Highway Patrol to Lyon County deputies.
Rudz was listed as a fugitive from Warren County, Ohio, after an alleged incident July 17 in Lebanon, Ohio. Information from the Warren County Sheriff’s Office indicates a woman had been assaulted during an argument and following unwanted sexual advances. Rudz was accused in Ohio of putting his foot on the woman’s chest, striking her and choking her before she left. Rudz is wanted in Ohio on suspicion of felony assault and strangulation.
