Administrators of Southwick House are pleased with early construction for the new transitional housing facility in south Emporia — so much so they are tentatively adjusting the timeframe for opening the facility.
On KVOE’s Newsmaker segment Tuesday, Executive Director Cara Codney said the facility in the 100 block of East Logan is largely framed, so less-visible work is ahead inside the structure and the building might be ready for opening by early January 2027. It’s good news for a lot of reasons, especially with a lot of people asking for space.
Codney says the Southwick House mission is founded on the crisis services for women as offered through Plumb Place for a century before it dissolved in 2020, but it has also evolved over the last few years.
Frank says fundraising continues to complete the building, but that’s not the only focus as construction continues.
