At least the extreme heat has dissipated.
More standard summertime heat is in the works for the rest of the week, thanks to a weak cool front that’s bringing us slight to moderate chances of showers and storms through Friday, along with highs in the low- to mid 90s and heat index readings in the mid-90s to near 100 degrees.
Newman Regional Health reported a handful of heat-related visits to the Emergency Room last week. Director of Emergency Services says five people were treated and released from July 20 to this past Sunday, with most of the cases related to “prolonged outdoor exposure or strenuous physical labor.” Affected residents were anywhere from 21-70 years old. There were no heat-related admissions and no heat-related deaths.

5 am Tuesday: Weak cool front breaks recent extreme heat
It was weak, but a cool front has done its job to a degree — pun fully intended.
Along with bringing chances of showers and storms Tuesday, the boundary has also ended our recent reign of abysmal heat and humidity. Monday’s air temperature got to 100 and the heat index climbed to 107, following an air temperature of 100 and heat index of 112 Sunday — and a high of 98 with a heat index of 116 on Saturday.
Air temperatures will still get to the mid-90s and heat index readings will approach 100 Tuesday. The pattern largely repeats itself through Friday — slight to moderate chances of storms day and night, air temperatures in the low- to mid-90s and heat index readings in the mid- and upper 90s. The upcoming weekend should be dry with high temperatures in the mid- and upper 80s.
Rainfall chances may be extended, but totals do not look to be impressive. Many locations may get up to half an inch of rainfall total this week.
