Demolition work at Emporia’s KTA service station is set to begin very soon.
According to KTA Director of Engineering Glen Scott, the KTA decommissioned the current restaurant at the service area earlier this month with plans to demolish the facility currently in motion. The reason for the demolition, and the addition of new amenities, comes as part of a “modernization” effort to update the nearly 40-year-old facility.
Scott says that while physical work is getting underway soon, discussions on the updated facility have been taking place for much longer.
The update will see the service exit consolidate all amenities under a single roof as opposed to two buildings as it has been in the past. Included will be fueling stations, fast food options and updated bathroom spaces to make the experience simpler and more enjoyable for travelers.
Scott adds the new facility will also have a “unique” amenity for long-distance travelers.
As for the timetable, Scott says the project will take roughly a year to complete. KVOE News will have regular updates on the project’s progression as it continues.
