Once again, Grace United Methodist Church ensured that local students would kick off the school year on the right foot this weekend, puns fully intended.
The annual Kicks4Kids shoe giveaway event was busy from start to finish, with families lining the block around Grace United hours before the event even began, according to Pastor Debbie Sellers.
Sellers noted that Kicks4Kids always has a complete turnout from the church’s congregation, noting the adage “It takes a village to raise a child.” She noted that this year, that village grew just a bit as Brown’s Shoe Fit Company, which has collaborated with the church in the past, was on hand for the first time this year to assist with foot measurements.
Sellers called the event, the day and the community a “blessing.”
Brown’s Shoe Fit Manager Aaron Otto says he and his staff were “honored” to be invited to take part in the event in person this year. He says the event is about far more than just getting kids a pair of new shoes for the year; it is a health matter.
Sellers says if families were unable to attend the event Saturday, no worries; they can still assist them.
