Construction continues at Little Lyons Childcare as part of work to add a second shift of supervised care for youngsters.
Little Lyons opened its doors a year ago, and construction has been a hallmark of the property along with the goal of getting young children ready for the school system. Director Serena Jeffery says work is underway on the north end of the building.
It may not sound like much, but a key component of recent construction has been half-wall bathrooms.
Right now, 5 classrooms are open on the south side of the former Maynard building, serving children from newborn age to kindergarten age. Regardless of the room, Jeffery says Little Lyons has one thing in mind with the children in its care.
Little Lyons was a product of the Emporia Area Chamber of Commerce and a connected entity, Ignite Emporia, before Ignite disbanded last year. Chamber Interim President and CEO Mike Law says Little Lyons fits a critical need for parents and employers.
Jeffery says there’s a definite need.
Currently, over 60 students are enrolled with nearly 20 on staff. Jeffery says the goal is to begin second-shift work before the end of the year as Little Lyons looks to expand enrollment to nearly 100.
