Whether in person or by mail, the advance vote process ends soon.
Monday at noon is the deadline for people wanting to vote in person ahead of Tuesday’s general election. People in line when the deadline passes will have a chance to cast their ballots.
Meanwhile, mail ballots must be at least postmarked by Tuesday if they have a chance to be counted. In case you hadn’t heard, the original plan to end the state’s 3-day grace period ended after legal action at the district court and Court of Appeals levels last month, followed by inaction from the Kansas Supreme Court to review the Court of Appeals decision — meaning mail ballots must also be returned to county election offices by Friday to be added to the final count and related vote canvass procedures later this month.
As of the close of business Friday, Lyon County had 1,070 residents vote in person, including almost 180 on Friday. Of the 412 mail ballots that were sent to county residents, 258 have been accepted and 29 have been rejected.
For Primary Election Day on Tuesday, polls will be open from 7 am to 7 pm. KVOE’s complete election coverage begins shortly after the polls close.
