Policies to help current military service personnel are included in the fiscal 2027 National Defense Authorization Act.
That help specifically comes in the form of a 5- to 7-percent pay raise, something Kansas Congressman Derek Schmidt was pleased to discuss during his monthly KVOE Morning Show visit last week.
Schmidt says it’s a good way to recognize the work of our military service personnel working either domestically or overseas.
Also included is a policy designed to increase public awareness about the accomplishments and hardships of the Greatest Generation, notably the people who fought during World War II. Called the Senator Robert Dole Greatest Generation Education Program in honor of the late World War II soldier and federal lawmaker Bob Dole, Schmidt thanked the Friends of the National World War II Memorial for its support.
Schmidt says this is a step that makes sense.
Dole was 98 when he passed away 5 years. Part of his time as a lawmaker was dedicated to seeing the World War II Memorial built on the National Mall in Washington DC.
Schmidt appears the last Friday of every month on KVOE’s Morning Show.
