July and August have been pretty hot months this year — setting the scene for the Peterson Planetarium’s next set of shows this month. The presentation, though, doesn’t deal with weather.
The August full-dome presentation is called “The Hot and Energetic Universe.” Planetarium Director Mark Brown says this is a way to kickstart the fall semester with “high-energy physics.”
Brown says neutron stars are far away from Earth now, but there are some thoughts our planet was affected by neutron stars or supernovae well into our past.
Shows are at 10 am Tuesday, 6 pm Wednesday, 2 pm Thursday and 10 am Saturday this week. There are also shows at 4 pm Aug 20 and Aug 27.
Besides the main event and a Q&A session afterward, the shows Aug 12 and Aug 13 will also feature a discussion about the Perseid meteor showers peaking those days. The show Aug 27 will also have a conversation about a partial lunar eclipse beginning that day.
