As was the case Sunday, hot and sticky conditions are with us Monday.
Air temperatures should be just below 100 degrees in Emporia by late afternoon. Heat index readings may climb as high as 102 locally. Chase and Greenwood counties, meanwhile, are in a heat advisory from 12-8 pm Monday with heat index readings as high as 107 expected.
Air temperatures got to 97 in Emporia with a peak heat index of 106 Sunday. Similar conditions are expected for most of the week, with temperatures in the mid- to upper 90s and heat index readings mostly in the low 100s as high as 102. Shower and thunderstorm chances return on a slight to moderate level by Thursday night.
This means another time period for light, loose-fitting clothes, as well as drinking extra water, potential schedule changes to handle more strenuous activity in the morning or evening and frequent breaks in air conditioning or shade. Residents are also encouraged to check up on elderly neighbors and be sure not to leave children or pets unattended in vehicles while on errands.
