Extreme heat is here and it is sticking around through the upcoming weekend.
The National Weather Service is forecasting air temperatures between now and Friday to be right at 100 degrees with heat indexes ranging from 10t to 109 in that same time frame. As a result, an extreme heat warning has been issued for the entire listening area until 7 pm Friday evening.
Following the upcoming weekend, temepeatures are expected to cool off a bit with chances of showers and thunderstorms in the forecast Monday and Tuesday and afternoon highs in the upper 80s. With the extreme heat, residents will need to take several precautions, especially if they plan to be outdoors for a prolonged period of time, starting with drinking plenty of water.
Individuals should also dress in light, loose fitting clothing, move strenuous activities to the morning or evening hours and take frequent breaks in air conditioning or shaded areas. Also, be sure to regularly check on pets and elderly neighbors and do not leave pets or children in cars while running errands.
