Emporia Rescue Mission hasn’t had a hot meal program for the community since it ended its support for Abundant Harvest at the end of last year, but it has continued a food distribution program — and now that program has a notable schedule adjustment.
The Rescue Mission had been distributing food every weekday at 8:30 am at 1028 Whittier, the former Abundant Harvest location. It has now moved to a Monday-Wednesday-Friday schedule. This involves items like milk and chicken wings, as offered recently, as opposed to the full meals the Rescue Mission once supported.
When the Rescue Mission ended the Abundant Harvest hot meal program, Grace United Methodist Church, the United Way of the Flint Hills, City of Emporia and others banded together to create the Abundant Grace meal distribution program that also takes place Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, but at 4:30 pm those days.
