The miniature train in Soden’s Grove made more memories for families Saturday.
The Sertoma Club has been operating the train for 25 years now, and with the regular ride season ending next weekend, the club invited the community to get some free train rides.
Club President Barb Rourk remembers when the train switched management from the Early B ird Optimist Club — because she was part of the Optimists then.
Rourk says the train has provided a lot of happiness to a lot of people. And that’s what makes being part of Sertoma so gratifying.
With the anniversary part now done, the Sertoma Club will still have regular season rides through Aug 30. Hours will be Aug 30 are 6:30-8:30 pm Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday, as well as 9-11 am Thursday.
After that, the focus becomes the club’s annual biscuits and gravy breakfast Sept 26. Proceeds benefit scholarships for nursing students at Emporia State University and Flint Hills Technical College.
