Traffic was constricted for several hours this past weekend after a bridge was hit by an oversized load Saturday evening.
The incident happened around mile marker 139 on the Kansas Turnpike, 12 miles northeast of the Emporia exit and 8 miles southwest of the Admire exit, around 8:30 pm Saturday. A load of 2 large-diameter cylinders got wedged under the bridge, which is marked at 14 feet, 9 inches. It took until Sunday afternoon to get traffic back to normal.
No injuries were reported. A damage estimate is pending for the bridge.
This is the second notable bridge hit in Lyon County this month. Just over a week ago, an oversized load hit the KTA bridge over US Highway 50, causing minor damage.

1:30 pm Sunday: Southbound traffic down to single lane on Kansas Turnpike northeast of Emporia due to oversized load striking overpass
Southbound traffic on a portion the Kansas Turnpike has been altered slightly due to an obstruction.
KVOE News was alerted to an oversized load that became lodged in an overpass at mile marker 140 on the turnpike, roughly 12 miles northeast of Emporia and just south of the Admire Council Grove exit, just before 1:20 pm. Southbound traffic is down to one lane in the area as crews work to remove the vehicle.
There is no word on any damage or injuries as a result of the incident at this time. KVOE News will have updates as they develop.
