Things are moving forward for USD 251 North Lyon County as the district asks for permission to fund a major change in its school operations.
The bond questions, one for a new high school near North Lyon County Junior-Senior High and the other for a new athletics complex just northeast of Americus, are headed to the November 3 ballot. Superintendent Bob Blair says much of the most recent public discussion dealt with a letter from Evergy affirming its commitment to Lyon County and to the district specifically through the ongoing presence of the Emporia Energy Center.
Earlier this month, the board also got clearance on the bond questions themselves from the Kansas State Board of Education after procedural concerns about the $31 million bond amount surpassing the state’s 14-percent bond limit compared to total assessed valuation. The district handled all the legal steps to handle the matter legally, including public notice of intent and a formal application to that end to KSDE.
