The recent arrest of an individual on multiple charges, announced Monday, originally developed a day before he was apprehended.
According to a news release from Emporia Police Captain Ray Mattas, Emporia Police responded to a report of a past disturbance around 2:00 am on Sunday, August 23. At that time, officers were told by an unnamed female that she had gone to a residence at 1002 Weaver Street to retrieve personal belongings and became involved in an argument with the resident, 41-year-old Brent Hardin.
The woman stated that during the argument, Hardin had threatened her with a handgun, struck her and “prevented her from leaving the residence.” Officers attempted to locate Hardin at the scene that evening, but were unable to do so. On Monday, officers located Hardin “away from the residence” and apprehended him without incident.
Officers then obtained and executed a search warrant for the residence at 1002 Weaver, where they allegedly recovered evidence related to the reported crimes as well as controlled substances. Hardin was taken to the Lyon County Jail and booked on suspicion of distributing methamphetamine; possession of marijuana, meth and paraphernalia; criminal possession of a weapon by a felon; as well as aggravated kidnapping; aggravated robbery; aggravated battery; criminal damage to property; and felony interference with law enforcement.
A first court appearance is currently pending.
10:45 am Tuesday: Emporia Police officers arrest one person for alleged drug distribution, two on suspected auto burglary
Formal charges are pending after arrests in an apparent drug distribution case and an apparent auto burglary case.
On Monday afternoon, Emporia Police officers arrested Brent Hardin on suspicion of distributing methamphetamine; possession of marijuana, meth and paraphernalia; criminal possession of a weapon by a felon; as well as aggravated kidnapping; aggravated robbery; aggravated battery; criminal damage to property; and felony interference with law enforcement.
Separately, officers arrested Ronald Thill and Sarah Wolf on suspicion of burglary.
