A Lebo woman is dead following a vehicle and semi collision near Beto Junction Friday evening.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the accident occurred just after 8:30 pm at Interstate 35 mile marker 155 northbound. KHP says the accident unfolded as a 2015 Toyota Highlander, driven by 80-year-old Anita Morgan of Lebo, was traveling southbound in the northbound lane.
At the same time, a 2024 Semi Freightliner, driven by 42-year-old Wilfred Orenge of New Hope, Minnesota, was traveling northbound and was struck head on by the Morgan Highlander. The Highlander came to a rest in the northbound lane while the freightliner came to a rest on its side blocking the southbound lanes of traffic.
Morgan suffered fatal injuries and died as a result of the collision. Orenge had no apparent injuries. Both were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident.
