One man was hospitalized and three individuals arrested following an investigation into an accidental shooting over the weekend.
According to Emporia Police, officers were called to 703 Rural Street at approximately 3:15 am Sunday for a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located 47-year-old Benjamin Branstetter and discovered he had suffered gunshot wounds to his hand and leg, later determining they were the result of an accidental discharge of a firearm.
Branstetter was taken to Newman Regional Health and later transferred to a separate unnamed hospital for treatment of his injuries. Three others were arrested on charges not related to the shooting following EPD’s investigation into the incident.
Those individuals were 45-year-old Dusty Kemp, who was arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance; 37-year-old Richard Williams for outstanding warrants and 44-year-old Stephanie Potter for suspicion of possession of a controlled substance. Formal charges are pending against all three at last word.
Emporia Police are continuing their investigation at this time and ask anyone with information that could assist their efforts to contact EPD by calling 620-343-4225.
