The eastern half of Kansas is in a heat advisory this week
Lyon and most surrounding counties are in an advisory from 1 pm Wednesday to 8 pm Friday. The exceptions, Chase and Greenwood counties, are in an advisory from 1 pm Wednesday to 9 pm Friday.
Regardless of the duration, conditions will continue their hot pattern that locked into place this past weekend. Wednesday’s high temperature could be up to 102. Heat index readings areawide could be as high as 106. Similar conditions are expected Thursday and Friday.
Tuesday had a high temperature of 102 and a peak heat index of 101, given relative humidity levels below 30 percent for most of the day.

A heat advisory is back in the forecast through the rest of the work week.
The advisory covers Lyon, Coffey, Osage, Morris and Wabaunsee counties until 8 pm Friday. The advisory has been issued with temperatures set to be at or above 100 degrees with heat index values at or above 106.
As always, residents should take extra precautions, including wearing lightweight and loose-fitting clothing, drinking lots of water, moving strenuous activities to the morning or evening hours and taking frequent breaks in shade or air conditioning.
