As construction continues on Stormont Vail’s medical clinic in far west Emporia, the need for repairs near the construction site has become readily apparent.
Notable depressions in the surface of West 18th near the construction site entry points has triggered a repair project later this month. Stormont Vail’s contractor will close eastbound traffic on 18th from Road G, or Americus Road, to the west edge of the DeBauge Family Sports Complex for the work ahead. 18th will be constricted to 1 lane of traffic from Road G to the west line of the soccer complex, with normal 2-lane traffic to the east of the work zone.
City officials have said West 18th will be improved and expanded later, with work ongoing on Stormont Vail Emporia into 2028, renovations coming soon to DeBauge through early 2027, a significant housing project approved for the north side of 18th between Jones Aquatic Center and Road G and a possible new public recreation center at Jones Aquatic Center.
In the short term, work begins September 11 and could last a week.
