Kansas AAA is expecting another high volume of travel over the course of the Labor Day Holiday period.
Kansas AAA Manager of Public and Government Affairs Shawn Steward shared as much with KVOE News during an interview Thursday morning. Noting AAA does not typically project travel numbers for this specific holiday period, Steward says they are going off of recent travel trends from the summer holiday season as their main indicator.
Steward says the projection is holding strong despite the noticeable increase in travel costs, including gas prices roughly 90 cents higher in Kansas than at the same time last year. Why are travel costs not acting as a major deterrent? According to Steward, people enjoy having one last hoo-rah to close out the summer season.
Steward did note that while they anticipate a large amount of travel, he does not anticipate many of those will be “long-distance” trips; however, he could not provide specific numbers or projected distances, again, because the agency does not traditionally project travel numbers for this specific holiday period.
That said, regardless of the distance residents are planning to travel over the course of the weekend, Steward says it is important to be prepared and make sure your vehicle is in proper shape to get you to your destination.
