An initial report of a drowning in southeast Emporia on Saturday was erroneous, but a child was still taken to Newman Regional Health for observation afterward.
Emporia Fire and Emporia Police were dispatched to Eastgate Plaza Apartments, 702 Eastgate, around 8:10 pm. While rescue crews were headed to the apartment complex, information about the alleged drowning victim indicated the child was alive and the alleged incident apparently happened earlier in the day. The child was taken to Newman Regional as a precautionary measure.
Emporia Police officers are investigating.
