A reported structure fire call in downtown Emporia turned out to have a less significant cause
Emporia, Americus and Olpe firefighters were dispatched to Genesis Health Clubs, 1007 Commercial, around 10 am. Instead of a fire, crews found an overheated light ballast had caused some haze inside part of the business.
The 1000 block of Commercial was briefly closed as firefighters handled business. Genesis was also briefly evacuated. There were no injuries.
