The Emporia State volleyball team played their first match of the season in Kansas and swept the Newman Jets 25-23, 25-18, 25-21 in a non-conference match at Fugate Gymnasium in Wichita Tuesday night. ESU played clean offense hitting .296 in the first set but gave up the lead in the middle of the frame when the Navy & Red went on a 9-1 run to go in front 17-12. The Black & Gold answered with a 7-2 run to tie the set at 19-all before eking out the win. E-State held NU to under .100 hitting in the second set then outhit the Jets in the final frame to take the win. Mia Frisbie led NU offensively with 10 kills while Delainee Dexter had 19 assists and Miyu Tsurumaki added 15 digs. ESU (8-1) heads to Oklahoma with a six-match winning streak for the MIAA-GAC Crossover beginning on Thursday.
