Harvest season is getting started, and the National Education Center for Agriculture Safety is urging drivers of non-farm vehicles to pay attention over the next few weeks.
Director Dan Neenan says this is a time of year when regular vehicles and farm vehicles use the same roads a lot.
Neenan says regular traffic safety rules apply whenever regular vehicles come up on farm vehicles.
The Kansas Highway Patrol has its own safety tips whenever harvest season is underway:
*Don’t assume the farmer knows you’re nearby
*Pass with extreme caution
*A farm vehicle pulling to the right side of a road doesn’t automatically mean it’s turning right or letting you pass
*Use the slow-moving vehicle emblem as a reminder to slow down
*Be patient
*Pay attention
The Highway Patrol says drivers should be cautious on all roads, but especially busy rural roads with unmarked intersections, many of which may be paved with gravel.
