Repatriation activities are coming next month for a pair of Bushong natives killed in World War II.
The ceremony and burial for brothers Sgt. Jay Moreland and Sgt. William Moreland will take place Saturday, October 10th at 1:30 pm. Activities will begin at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home in Emporia before moving to the Bushong Cemetery for the official burial that day.
The Moreland brothers served in World War II and were aboard a landing craft that struck underwater German mines during the invasion of Omaha Beach on D-Day. Both of their remains were positively identified earlier this year.
The Moreland brothers’ repatriation will follow similar activities for fellow Bushong native Sgt. John Owen Herrick who was returned home back in November of 2024 and was also killed in action during World War II.
