After over a month with barely any rainfall, things have certainly changed course.
Following severe thunderstorm warnings for portions of Chase and Greenwood counties, as well as scattered heavy rainfall Wednesday afternoon, more widespread moderate to heavy rain has been crossing much of the KVOE listening area Thursday morning. Totals as of 8:45 am:

One Lyon County road has been impacted by the rain. Road J is closed to thru traffic between 150 and 160 until further notice.
Storms, meanwhile, have created isolated power outages. As of 6 am:
*Evergy had 31 customers offline in Emporia and close to 50 from Emporia into northwest Greenwood County as of 4 am, as well as an additional 50 customers offline in west central Greenwood County. The Emporia outage number dipped to under 5 as of 6 am. Another outage had over 400 customers without electric power from Cottonwood Falls to Atchison.
*4 Rivers Electric doesn’t designate specific outage areas, but it had over 160 customers offline in Lyon County as of 4 am. That number dipped to under 50 by 6 am. Just over 10 customers were offline in Coffey County.
Meanwhile, a Reading woman was hurt in a rain-related crash just south of Osage City on Wednesday. The Kansas Highway Patrol says the 2-vehicle wreck happened at the junction of Kansas Highway 170 and 245th Road around 4 pm. Troopers say an SUV driven by 79-year-old Mary Rosetta of Reading was southbound before Rosetta crossed the center line and hit a northbound SUV driven by 67-year-old Brenda Elliott of Osage City. Elliott was not hurt. Rosetta was taken to Newman Regional Health with suspected minor injuries. Troopers indicate visibility was poor due to heavy rain at the time of the crash.
Rain chances continue through mid-morning Thursday with highs in the low 80s, following a stretch of high temperatures in the upper 90s and low 100s for nearly 2 weeks. Highs will be in the mid-80s Friday before a good chance of showers and embedded storms Saturday.
