The Great American Market lived up to its name once again Saturday, as the day saw great conditions, a great turnout and a great selection of vendors yet again.
From art to food to clothes and more, there was something for everyone to be found in the downtown corridor, a point of pride for Emporia Main Street Director Casey Woods, who noted that each year they have a long list of individuals contacting them to get a booth at the market.
Woods noted the “Power to pull” vendors into the market each year comes from a lot of sources, including its location.
Woods also credited the longevity of the event for the success and the work the Main Street team does each year to improve on the prior year, saying just because the event is successful doesn’t mean it can’t be better.
The market was full of vendors months in advance, with vendors lining Commercial Street from 6th to 12th as well as the 10 blocks of 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th both east and west of Commercial. With the market now wrapped up, Main Street won’t be slowing down, especially Woods, who is set to head off to Osaka, Japan soon for the official launch of Main Street Japan.
Following that trip, Main Street gets ready for the Apella All-Class Reunion on September 18-20. Emporia High alums are encouraged to attend a range of activities, including an All-Class Sip & Social on September 19 at Radius Brewing, individual class reunions and meetings and tours of Emporia High. Kansas Main Street’s annual training conference will be in Emporia on September 22-23, with the Center on Rural Innovation national conference in Emporia from September 28 to October 1.
